Second Visit to Percy Hedley

The Aim of the visit was to have a feel of the Percy Hedley center, meet with David Barker, the Head of Percy Hedley Adult services and hence guide our area of work and then define our objectives.

We first had a talk with David Barker, for me, it was my first time meeting him, so it was also a ‘getting-to-know’ situation. Then after stating each of our options, David Barker, took us around the facilities at the Percy Hedley primary school and head office, showed us the spaces where C.E is conducted and the current pool where hydrotherapy takes place. We went across to the Adult day centre, had a bit of lunch while we had a feel of the area. Showed us the uses of space within the facility, which had various types of rooms which included a ‘moods’ room, a computer room, areas for socialising and of course the cafeteria.

One of the things that David said then, about the people he worked with, was to

Listen..sometimes we think we do, but if we listened properly to somebody we are bound to understand them better.

Later on, we got back to the office, and chose our area of concentration which was the Adult Conductive Education aspect. We came to the decision by acknowledging  it was well within our scope, our personal objectives and we could give more to the client in the time spcae we had. After the Decision, We had to task of setting three objectives under the selected Project. We had to do this and email David Barker asap.

Meeting came to an end, and we went back to the studio, decided on the three objectives, which we felt were important and touched upon areas we were all interested in.

We had initial discussions on how we would do a couple of things and I suggested we had a folder where we kept all our research, but no one seemed keen on the idea preferring to keep research and share when needed, I saw this had worked very well on the Whitley Bay project but since we are in democracy, I didn’t force the matter.

We also drafted and sent an email to David Barker stating these objectives.

Research was to begin with each of us scoping the problem space, learning as much as we could on C.E to discuss our findings the next week.

After the Decision was made. We had to task of setting three objectives under the project aspect. We had to do this and email David Barker asap.
